Anna Eleanor Roosevelt was born on October 11 in 1884 in New York City. She was raised in a wealthy family and from a young age on, she was known for her sensitivity to the underprivileged of the society, no matter one’s religion, race or origin. In 1905, she married Franklin D. Roosevelt who later became president of the United States. She was the longest-serving First Lady from 1933 to 1945. During that time, she was his eyes and ears. She broke with former traditions and gave press conferences, lectures, radio broadcasts and gave her opinions in a daily newspaper column, called ‘My Day’.
After the death of Franklin D. Roosevelt in 1945, she became a United Nations spokeswoman and she continued her successful career. She was one of the most influential women in American politics.
